Forum on Aviation Safety Plan

HELP REALLY NEEDED!

WHAT?  SMAAC must recover and add members!

WHY? Protecting the public health and safety from increasing Aviation risks and possible recession. In Metro Minnesota the cause is more than a decade of seldom noticed but deep policy changes. Across the Nation the cause is the White House dismantling federal roles little understood but approved by Congress anyway. Every day almost now, an aviation crash or near-miss is reported.

HOW? Support of Forums and Meetings is extensive: planning, arrangements, registration, counting ballots etc. We need enough volunteers for a joint Forum-and-Meeting planned for June, at least 25l more 2025 Members ($15 Dues) to help setting up and running the Forum and business meeting(s). Also, we want to increase the Board of Directors to 9. The By-Laws allow 3, 5, 7 or 9 Directors (over-lapping 3-year terms). Expired or vacant terms can be filled by the Board or nominated for a special election until the (November) Annual Meeting. That allows continuation, but we need a few hundred more dollars pre-Forum. Nominate a friend or yourself for Director after joining!

Please consider helping plan the upcoming SMAAC FORUM!  The Forum Committee is planning a public survey (our 1,200-household email list) following up the Forum topics. It is possible we will have a Forum Co-Sponsor. We need publicity, recruitment, and arrangement subcommittee help.

A Forum on how Aviation risks are increasing across the USA could alert Congress. Hub Airports, like Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport, have more public health, safety, and environmental protection risks across the United States are lessened is urgent. But SMAAC must maintain the NFP requirements and elect officers and Directors Thanks to a few Generous Contributors, SMAAC has had enough money to get along. We are still in need of new members and volunteers and will set up admissions at the Forum.

Potential partners want to include reporting about how Presidential appointees and Senate confirmations will likely impact operations and schedules at DOT, EPA, FAA and NTSB may increase Public Heathe and Safety risks.

Climate change, health and safety risks and pollution are increased more by routes and schedules (hourly capacity at airports) than daily passenger and cargo weightsur members can ask for or demand attention from city, county, state and federal elected representatives and agencies --and get more attention form news reporters. (Before the pandemic for instance, MAC meetings were well attended by reporters and citizens. Those were a message to our City Councils, County Commissioners, and State Legislators. 2024 Forum/Blog Topic: Reform FAA Re-Authorization Climate Change Issues in Congress?

Government activities since 2017 reduced public events and limited questions by constituents and reporters. at every level. (In 2018, FAA proposed using a phony "common metric" allowing pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from aviation effectively unattended. Five Presidential appointees to FAA management posts remained around until the FAA Administrator was forced to resign. (There was a MN connection).

A Press Release was sent a few days ago to TC media. It informs reporters, Editors, and Board Members about the public health and safety risk increases in the Metro (runway use, routes, and schedules0 and the complications added by the Federal reduction of Air Traffic Controllers.
