HELP WANTED!
SMAAC must recover and add members lost to support in-person and on-line video Meetings, Forums, or social gatherings. Our Annual Meetings, interesting Forums and other activities supported aviation public health, safety, and environmental protection across the United States, and we affiliated with the AVIATION-IMPACTED COMMUNITIES. ALLIANCE (AICA) against environmental rules proposed by airlines and FAA, formally commenting in the Federal Register.
Thanks to a few Generous Contributors, SMAAC has enough money to get along. We are still in need of new members and volunteers. News releases Blogs and showing up at MAC meetings are the way to increase attention. Our members can ask for or demand attention from city, county, state and federal elected representatives and agencies --and get more attention form news reporters. (Before the pandemic for instance, MAC meetings were well attended by reporters and citizens. Those were a message to our City Councils, County Commissioners, and State Legislators. 2024 Forum/Blog Topic: Reform FAA Re-Authorization Climate Change Issues in Congress?
Government activities since 2017 reduced public events and limited questions by constituents and reporters. at every level. (In 2018, FAA proposed using a phony "common metric" allowing pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from aviation effectively unattended. Five Presidential appointees to FAA management posts remained around until the FAA Administrator was forced to resign. (There was a MN connection).
I am considering stepping down as SMAAC President if the Board is increased to 9 Directors. The Annual Membership Meeting needs to be held online because 2 or 3 incumbent Directors are out-of-town in the winter. At the Annual Meeting, vacancies can be filled. I would like SMAAC to support AICA and similar Citizen's groups at other hub airports to testify through the U.S. House committees on aviation, environment, and health.
Please consider helping plan the upcoming SMAAC FORUM! The Forum Committee is planning a public survey (our 1,200-household email list) following up the Forum topics. It is possible we will have a Forum Co-Sponsor. We need publicity, recruitment, and arrangement subcommittee help.
