Working for SMAAC

The South Metro Airport Action Council (SMAAC) usually holds “Town Hall Forums.” to raise awareness of the Metro airport or aviation situation. The Annual Dues or donations are received as SMAAC Membership Dues. The Annual Members' Meeting and Board Elections follow. Dues are only $15/Year, Annual Meeting to Annual Meeting. The dues allow you to vote for the Board of Director sets and policies.

You can help:

ARRANGEMENTS: Do you know any Not-for-profit or grant board members we can ask about co-sponsoring the Forum?  Could you help sell Forum Tickets and collect dues? Operate video and sound systems? Record presentations and comments. Set-up and clean-up?

FINANCE & MEMBERSHIP: Member rosters, banking, receipts and list management for communications are handled at the Web Site(s). This important activity is supervised by the Treasurer (a Board Member). In the simplest terms, Members are tagged by year and by committee,

HOSTS: If our Forum speaker(s) are not local, such as an FAA official or a Congressional Transportation Committee member, can you meet them and make them comfortable?

PUBLICITY: While we have about 1200 households following SMAAC and a list of editors and reporters, the attendance or support we need will depend on memberships and donation. We can use techs and writers for the Websites.

TELLERS: SMAAC has four Board of Directors vacancies and a couple of other matters before the Annual Meeting.

DIRECTORS: "Refreshing the Board is essential (I'm 86)" President Jim Spensley. Nine Directors is best. By-Laws are 3-year terms, rotated. Some vacancies are one- or two-year terms. There may be retirements sooner if a smooth and serious Board is elected.

In our Metro area, economics are vital. Business, industry, home, hospital, and school accommodations were affected by economic growth: new aviation services added jobs, employed residents, added consumers, increased tax revenues. Northwest and Sun Country were “Hometown” businesses in the 1960’s as jets were introduced. The Metro Airports were enlarged and non-commercial aviation use of the MSP Airfield (except Military) moved out. (That was not generally supportive of large businesses and economics. NWA employed about 8,000 Minnesotans, DELTA, less than 3,500).

The more organized we are, the more influence we have. Forums, News Blogs, Press Releases, and Consultations with Government work.
